Green Tea and Weight Loss 

 

Green tea can help with diet and weight loss. Drinking it or taking in tablet form can help to suppress the appetite and every time that green tea is taken in the body there is a slight raise in the metabolism, it may not be as high as for example eating a chilli pepper but any metabolism high helps with weight loss. 

 

Research has shown that if a green tea drinker has 5 cups per day the metabolism is increased and burns an estimated 70-80 additional calories per day.

 

Over a week that is quite a number of calories burned by just having a few cups of green tea so in over two months of regularly drinking green tea there would be a loss of over 1 pound of fat which a wonderful fact to know for those on a weight loss programme.

 

Not everyone likes the taste of green tea and there are supplements which work similarly in the body to lift the metabolism and burn extra calories. Over a year the weight loss from drinking green tea alone would be 8 pounds. Not bad if you're a lover of green tea. 

 

So why is green tea so effective in lifting the metabolism and burning extra calories? Well green tea also helps to suppress the appetite so for an overweight or obese person it may seem strange not feeling hungry but that is essentially what green tea does to the appetite as well as increasing the metabolism. Drinking green tea after a meal may stabilise the blood sugar levels because it slows down the digestive enzyme amylase which actually breaks down the carbohydrates in the body causing chaos to blood sugar levels which may cause hunger after a meal so green tea is fantastic for a person following a weight loss programme because it reduces the amylase enzyme and stabilises the blood sugar levels. 

 

Green tea also contains catechins which are beneficial to lowering the overall body fat and reducing high cholesterol levels. It also increases synthase a fatty acid in the body and when this is increased there is a higher level of carbohydrates turned into fat which can lead to significant weight loss and because green tea helps to lower high cholesterol levels it actually helps to boost heart health. Reach your weight loss goals by drinking green tea or taking green tea supplements.
